The General Election 5.5.2013
Its been a decade since my last post. Two years back, I have been working at Hong Leong Assurance as Bancassurance Specialist. I was in all high spirits when first entered into this completely new phrase. But soon the thrill and excitement gradually died down going away to tedious working life. Anyway my topic today is not on my job but on my country's - Malaysia 13th General Election (GE13)
It is historical first that the whole nation puts much awareness on the country's election. An 80% voters turned out, the biggest ever, clearly indicate that voter apathy is a thing of the past. Voters crowded the polling centers in early morning, cast their ballots with a hope that they can make difference in the country's politic, I'm not exception. I am "1st to vote", my main concern is corruption and the public security problems. I'm looking for a more progressive and harmony Malaysia.
Voting is a privileges given to a citizen to choose their leader and lead the country to a better future. Everyone has the right to vote, voters were stained with indelible ink in order to prevent electoral fraud such as double voting. However there were some allegations claiming that the ink could be washed off easily and some phantom voters like foreigners have been ferried in buses to the polling stations to vote for BN. I don't know how true it is but deep from heart I hope that Malaysian can practice a truly democracy in this GE13.
In the late evening, everyone was waiting anxiously for the result. Both sides were confident of winning the election. When BN has been announced of tallying some seats like Bentong Pahang and also Lembah Pantai, in the social network- Facebook, supporters were shouting foul over the dirty tactics allegedly played by BN like getting phantom voters and cut off electricity supply during the vote counting process.
The final result declared on 3am midnight in where the BN won 133 seats out of 222 parliamentary seats while opposition Pakatan won 89 seats. BN is falling well short of the two third majority. The three states that Pakatan retained are Selangor, Penang, and Kelantan. I guess many voters especially young generation who eager to change the government are hugely disappointed over the result, so do I.
Whatever the outcome of the polls, the political parties and their supporters must remain peaceful. I believe that the story haven't ended. Don't lose hope, because righteousness will always triumph over evil!!
